Full Figure- Composition and Framing



I'm still working on the first drawing. I want to have her sitting on a cliff, leaning against a tree, and looking out at some mountains. For the second work, I had originally planned to have it smaller, but since I put her to the far left, I could have it be that she's looking out at a city scape from her bedroom window.

  1. Oh yeah- I can see that. The top figure on the edge of a dramatic drop-off of some kind, absolutely. You have some good value built up in the clothing- less so in the figure. Put some shadows in there, some heavier, darker lines. Give the figure itself some presence in the image before you stress the background too much. The lower one- same. Get that figure sorted, then worry about where she's looking. I think just having it zoomed up and looking over the shoulder is really interesting. Also- that shoulder could use a little more bony joint, it looks a little wiggly.
