Full Figure- Composition and Framing
I'm still working on the first drawing. I want to have her sitting on a cliff, leaning against a tree, and looking out at some mountains. For the second work, I had originally planned to have it smaller, but since I put her to the far left, I could have it be that she's looking out at a city scape from her bedroom window.
Hi Jamie- nice work, I agree- more value in the shadows. You're starting to get there, but these are still very light. Have you ever made a value scale using pencils before? It might help you make the leap. So divide a 2" wide strip of paper into 1" segments, and fill each segment using a pencil. Make each segment progressively darker- so the first will be very light, and the last as dark as you can make it. Try and make the difference between each rectangle "equal"- so they darken an equal amount per square. It might help you get more comfortable making darker marks. Of course, using them in faces is another challenge entirely, but it could be a useful exercise for developing value.
